Widescreen by default, square or vertical when the post calls for it

Preparing a video for Twitter, now called X, starts with choosing a shape. This page begins on 16:9, the widescreen frame, because it is the most common starting point for a clip going into a timeline. A square 1:1 is a click away, and 4:5 or 9:16 are there when you want a taller picture. Your extra space is never turned into black bars.

The questions people actually type

Searches around Twitter video size circle the same worries: what size a video should be, whether 1080 pixels works, whether a taller frame such as 1080 by 1350 is accepted, and which is better for social media, 4:3 or 16:9. Those are questions about shape and about X's rules, which the platform can change. Klipa does not quote a rule it cannot confirm. What it does is give you each shape on demand: 1080 by 1350, for instance, is a 4:5 proportion, and 4:5 is in the list. For what X currently accepts, read X's own help pages.

Whenever the clip and the chosen shape disagree, you decide who gives way. Fit lets the clip stay complete and surrounds it with a blurred, enlarged echo of itself; the proportions are untouched and no edge is lost. Fill lets the frame win: the picture is zoomed to reach every corner, the overflow is dropped and the AI keeps the subject in shot. Klipa sets one of them first after looking at your footage, and a tap swaps it while the preview refreshes. Stretch bends the picture to the exact format; reserve it for repairing a clip that was exported squashed.

Exact pixels when you need them

If a guideline or a template quotes a size, open the custom option and key in both numbers. The page outputs that frame, with each side adjusted to an even number.

What to keep in mind

A new frame leaves sharpness untouched: a small, soft clip stays that way. Duration and weight limits are a separate matter. X's developer documentation says that video duration and file size limits vary by user tier, so check what your account allows, and use compression if a file is too heavy. To cut a long landscape video and reframe it vertically while the speaker is tracked, Video to Shorts does that for you.

What the tool produces

How it works

How to resize a video for X in 3 steps

Step 1

Add your clip

Choose the video from your computer or phone. The page takes MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV and WebM files up to 2 GB, and any starting shape, landscape, square or portrait, is fine.

Step 2

Pick the shape and the fill

The page opens on 16:9. Choose 1:1 for a square, or 4:5 or 9:16 for a taller picture. Then decide between Fit and Fill; Klipa starts from a suggestion, and you can override it before exporting.

Step 3

Preview, then download

Watch the preview to make sure nothing important is trimmed, then download the MP4 and attach it to your post on X from your phone or your computer.

Why Klipa

Why resize your X videos with Klipa?

Benefit — Resize Video for X (Twitter): 16:9, Square and Vertical

Widescreen, square or tall in one list

A timeline post may call for 16:9 one day and a square the next. The page lists 16:9, 1:1, 4:5 and 9:16 together, so you can make several versions of the same clip, compare them in the preview and keep the one that reads best on a timeline.

Benefit — Resize Video for X (Twitter): 16:9, Square and Vertical

Your whole clip, no dead bars

Where the footage and the shape you pick disagree, Fit wraps your video in a blurred, zoomed echo of the footage. The picture keeps its proportions, nothing is trimmed, and the surroundings blend with the scene rather than showing as flat black.

Benefit — Resize Video for X (Twitter): 16:9, Square and Vertical

A crop that follows what matters

Fill zooms the picture until it takes the whole frame. The AI tracks the main subject while it does so, which keeps a speaker or an object in view even though the outer edges of the scene are cut off.

Benefit — Resize Video for X (Twitter): 16:9, Square and Vertical

Online, free to try, no install

Open the page in any browser, on a phone or a computer: no install, no plug-in. A clip is checked in the preview, then exported as a standard MP4 that attaches to a post straight away.

Real cases

When to resize a video for X

Post a widescreen clip cleanly

Got a boxy 4:3 recording? Turn it into a 16:9 post. Fit retains the full scene between two soft panels on the sides. Fill zooms to the full width, so a strip of the top and bottom edges drops out of view.

Turn a clip into a square

A square is compact. Choose 1:1, then Fit for charts, screenshots and anything with text near the edges, or Fill for a close shot of a person or an object.

Try a taller picture in the timeline

Pick 4:5 to see how a clip looks in a vertical frame, or 9:16 for a full vertical version. Compare them in the preview and keep the one that shows your subject best.

Reuse a vertical video from elsewhere

A clip made for a phone-only platform can be brought to 16:9 or 1:1. Instead of black sides, Fit adds a blurred backdrop built from the clip itself, and Fill crops to the centre of the action.

Match a size from a brief

A brief that spells out a size in pixels? Put the numbers in the custom option, export, and review the framing in the preview before anything is sent.

Frequently asked

Resizing a video for X: frequently asked questions

Fastest route from a raw clip to an X-ready MP4?

Add your clip, keep 16:9 or move to 1:1, 4:5 or 9:16, then choose between Fit and Fill. Once the preview looks right, download the MP4 and attach it to your post. The page runs online, so there is nothing to install.

Is there an official X guide to video dimensions?

X can change its recommendations, so this page does not state one. Read X's own help pages for the current guidance, choose a shape, and select it here. If the guidance quotes pixels, the custom option lets you enter an exact width and height.

Will X display a 1080 by 1350 clip properly?

1080 by 1350 is a 4:5 proportion, and 4:5 is one of the shapes on this page. Whether X shows that frame the way you expect is something to confirm in X's help. You can produce a 4:5 version here and compare it with a 16:9 or 1:1 one in the preview.

Is 4:3 or 16:9 better for social media?

It depends on the platform and on how people view it. This page starts on 16:9, which most clips already use, and also offers 1:1, 4:5 and 9:16. Footage shot in 4:3 can be re-shaped to 16:9 with either mode, and the preview shows what you gain or lose.

X rejects my heavy file: which tool shrinks it?

A different frame is not a lighter file, although a smaller picture can shave some weight by accident. When the problem is the size on disk, the video compressor is the tool: it reduces it at the same resolution. Use this page for the shape and the compressor for the weight.

Widescreen to vertical, every edge kept: possible?

Pick 9:16, then Fit. The whole widescreen picture lands in the tall frame on a blurred backdrop, and nothing is cut, but it appears smaller. If you would rather fill the screen, Fill crops the sides and tracks the subject.

Can I post long videos on X?

That depends on your account. X's developer documentation says that video duration and file size limits vary by user tier, so check what yours allows. Klipa does not extend those limits: resizing the frame does not change a video's length.

Does upscaling sharpen footage?

No. Upscaling cannot add detail the camera never recorded; it spreads the existing pixels over a larger area. Work from the sharpest original you have, rather than a copy that was compressed once already, and resize that file for the shape you need.

Will my X post show a Klipa watermark?

Yes: the resized video carries the Klipa logo. To download it clean, with no logo, get a Pass for that video or a Pro plan. Previewing each shape and trying both fill modes is free, so you can judge the result before you decide to download.

If Shorts reframes on its own, why resize by hand?

Video to Shorts follows the subject automatically to produce a vertical video from a horizontal one. On this page you pick the shape for X, from 16:9 to square to vertical, and decide whether the picture stays whole on a blurred backdrop or is cropped. Choose according to your goal.

In closing

The right shape, then post

Preparing a video for X mostly means picking a shape and deciding what fills the leftover space. Start with 16:9 or go square or vertical, choose Fit or Fill, glance at the preview and save the MP4. A file that is still too heavy can be reduced with the video compressor without changing its resolution, while a long landscape recording that must become vertical with the subject tracked suits Video to Shorts. For the rules that apply to your account, rely on X's help pages.
